This year, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundations’s (AACDCF) Give Back a Smile program is a new charitable partnership for UConn ASDA. This program heals some of the most devastating effects of intimate partner violence by restoring the smiles of adult women and men who have suffered damage to, or lost, their smiles at the hands of a former intimate partner or spouse.

Not only is participating in the Hartford Marathon a good way to connect with our community, but it is also a way to inspire hope by raising funds and awareness to help abused victims. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, it is estimated that 1.5 million people experience intimate partner violence each year. A $200 donation will make it possible for one survivor of domestic violence to regain her smile. Our goal is to raise $2,600 to restore 13 smiles. We hope you'll consider donating to help give back these stolen smiles.

HARTFORD MARATHON

Mark your calendars and start training for the Hartford Marathon on Saturday, October 13th!

Don't worry, you don't have to run 26.2 miles, or even 13.1 -- there's a variety of shorter races so that everyone can participate. Here's a list of the events:

• Full Marathon
• Half Marathon
• 5k
• Team Relay - which includes 5 legs: 5.5 miles, 5.6 miles, 3.1 miles, 6.3 miles and 5.7 miles

We hope that through the marathon you’ll help ASDA fundraise for The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation's (AACDCF) Give Back a Smile program. HOW TO REGISTER

1. Register on the Hartford Marathon website.

2. Fill out our ASDA Sign Up List so we know you're running on our team!

3. If you are interested in running a leg of the relay, click here to find other ASDA teammates!

4. Help us FUNDRAISE! Our goal is to restore 13 smiles!

ADDITIONAL MARATHON DETAILS

Hickory Hill Apple Picking Fundraiser - 9/29 at 11AM. $2 Admission, all proceeds go to Give Back a Smile! Sign up here if you’re planning on attending. Depending on interest, we may provide bus transport to the orchard. More info TBA.

Pasta Powerup - 10/12 at 6PM. Come for an energizing pasta dinner and some comraderie the night before race day! Location TBA.

FREE T-SHIRTS will be provided for all runners on our ASDA team!

All runners will receive a free Miles for Smiles T-Shirt to wear during the race!
